Boys’ swimming: Rhinelander 1st/5, GNC Meet
The Rhinelander High School boys’ swim team won its sixth straight Great Northern Conference title in dominating fashion on Friday night, winning all 11 events as it took the conference meet in Medford.
Rhinelander senior Zacha King took down the conference record in the 100-yard backstroke. Samson Shinners was the team’s lone four-event winner. He claimed the 200 and the 100 freestyle and was on the team’s winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Shawn Denis took the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, Mathias Fugle claimed the 50 freestyle, Brock Arrowood won the 100 butterfly and Judson O’Malley won the 500 freestyle.
The Hodags travel to Ashwaubenon next Saturday for WIAA Division 2 sectionals.
Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 61, Tomahawk 24
The Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team bounced back from an overtime loss the night prior and convincingly took care of Tomahawk 61-24 at home.
The Hodags jumped out to a 39-11 lead at halftime and cruised in the second. Truman Lamers led Rhinelander with 12 points, Devon Feck had 11 and Will Gretzinger had 10 as the Hodags had 13 different players score in the contest.
Rhinelander (11-7, 7-1 Great Northern) plays Oshkosh West in Stevens Point today.
Girls’ basketball: Rhinelander 69, Tomahawk 35
The Rhinelander High School girls’ basketball team cruised on the road Friday night, defeating Tomahawk 69-35 in Tomahawk.
The Hodags led 43-16 at halftime and cruised in second. Lily Treder led the way with 17 points, Aubryn Clark had 16 and Dawsyn Bakrus scored a season-high 10 points.
Rhinelander (15-5, 8-1 Great Northern) hosts Medford on Monday.
