Scot Joseph Sturzl

Scot Joseph Sturzl, 61, of Tomahawk, and a former Rhinelander resident, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Aspirus Tomahawk Hospital.

Scot was born in Milwaukee on March 3, 1962, to John F. and Yvonne A. (Kniess) Sturzl. He was raised in Kenosha and was a 1980 graduate of Reuther Central High School. Upon graduating, Scot enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving his country from 1981 until 1984. He was united in marriage in Flagstaff, Arizona on March 1, 1984, to Diana Wessendorf. The couple had met in 1983 through a mutual friend. The couple lived in California before returning to Rhinelander. Scot attended Nicolet College from 1984 until 1985 earning a degree in auto mechanics. Scot enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1986 until 1988 where he and his family were stationed at Ft. Campbell. The family returned to Wisconsin in 1988, eventually living in Rhinelander. He was employed at the Rhinelander Paper Mill for a period of time.

Scot enjoyed hunting, fishing, and just spending time outdoors.

Surviving is his wife, Diana; children, Travis Sturzl Sr. and Linda Sturzl of Rhinelander, and Cindy Benford-Sturzl and Marko Mohammed of Illinois; seven grandchildren, Destinee, Travis Jr., Harmonee, Braylee, Latrell, Lovina, and Lacreed; his mother, Yvonne Sturzl of Florence, one brother, John (Shelly) Sturzl of Pulaski, and his four-legged companion, “Sassy”. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Scot is preceded in death by his father, John Sturzl.

The visitation for Scot will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the Hildebrand Funeral Home, from 11 a.m. until the 12 p.m. memorial service.

Immediately following the service, military honors will take place at the funeral home.
