Richard Dale Marko, age 90 of Rhinelander, died on January 28, 2024, at Riverview Health Services in Tomahawk. He was born on June 15, 1933, in Stevens Point, the son of John and Blanche (Sparhawk) Marko. He attended schools in Stevens Point, graduating from Stevens Point High School in 1951. He then attended UW Stevens Point and in 1959 he received his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. While at the UWSP he met the love of his life, Beverly Beer. They were married on September 2, 1958 and she preceded him in death on March 10, 1995.
Dick and Beverly moved to Rhinelander in the early 1960s and they both taught school at the McCord Elementary School. Dick then went on to teach art at Rhinelander High School, for many years. retiring in 1990.
Dick had many interests. He loved to golf and he enjoyed bowling. He was a longtime member of the Rhinelander Country Club and participated in the city bowling leagues for many years. He loved to paint and his art could be found all over in Rhinelander. He volunteered his abilities as an artist to many organizations by doing signs, caricatures, promotional items and tons of Hodags!
He had a great sense of humor that endeared him to all ages, from the little kids at junior to golf, to his students (who all loved him), his many friends and even the staff and residents of Riverview in Tomahawk, in his last days.
Dick is survived by his sons Andrew Marko and Richard (Kimberly) Marko, his grandchild Keegan Marko, his sister Marlene Greener, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly, his parents, and his seven siblings.
