RHS Sports recap: Thursday, Feb. 1
Boys’ basketball: Medford 57, Rhinelander 55, OT
Medford’s Carson Carbaugh stole an inbound pass and made a layup in transition with 25 seconds remaining in overtime to break a tie Thursday night as the Raiders knocked off Rhinelander 57-55 at Raider Hall.
The Hodags trailed virtually the entire second half, but got three late 3s by Devon Feck, including a shot with 12 seconds left in regulation that tied the game at 49 and sent the game to overtime.
Feck led the Hodags with 18 points while Will Gretzinger had 13. Tanner Hraby had 36 to lead Medford.
The Hodags (10-7, 6-2 Great Northern) hosts Tomahawk on Friday.
Boys’ hockey: Rhinelander 10, Shawano/Bonduel 4
The Rhineladner High School boys’ hockey team emphatically snapped a seven-game losing streak, scoring six times in the second period as part of a 10-4 win at Shawano Thursday night.
Gavin Denis recorded a hat trick for the Hodags while Joey Belanger and Drake Nelson each scored twice. Dalton Fritz, Dylan Shefveland and Logan Leonard added goals as the Hodags led 3-1 after a period and 9-3 after two frames.
Rhinelander outshot Shawano 40-25. Asher Rivord made 22 saves in the win for the Hodags.
Rhinelander (5-13-0, 1-7-0 Great Northern) hosts Ashland on Saturday.
