WIAA clarifies performance factor promotions
The WIAA last Monday updated and clarified a press release it sent out earlier this month noting teams who are slated to be promoted a division by reaching a threshold of tournament success based on a performance point system allocated over a three-year period. Programs that have accumulated at least six points to engage a promotion to a division with higher enrollments.
The WIAA stated four programs were “inadvertently not listed” in their initial release. Those programs are: Lancaster in girls’ cross country; and Columbus, Rice Lake and Waukesha Catholic Memorial, in football.
The performance factor process affords schools the opportunity to appeal their promotion to the division with the next largest enrollments based on performance points. None of the newly-listed schools appealed their promotions. Among the 52 promoted programs, 11 appeals were submitted and only two were approved — Wonewoc-Center in girls’ volleyball and Xavier in girls’ cross country.
