Project SEARCH open house slated for Jan. 8
The Northwoods Project SEARCH program will host an open house at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025 at host business Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital.
“Project SEARCH is a business-led program that allows young adults with developmental disabilities an opportunity to perform internships to learn and develop job skills, and explore career paths. The program includes instruction, skills training and ongoing job development,” Project SEARCH instructor Rod Olson stated in a press release announcing the event.
According to a flyer accompanying the press release, the hallmark of Project SEARCH is total workplace immersion, which facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration and hands-on training, leading to the acquisition of marketable work skills. Many interns are enrolled while completing their final year of high school and transitioning from high school to work, while others are young adults who have completed high school.
The information night will serve to inform those attending the goals of the program, provide information on becoming a Project SEARCH Intern, and how to get enrolled with Project SEARCH.
The event will take place in Lower Level Conference Rooms 1 and 2 of the hospital. Olson and job developer Leigha Plehn will be available to offer more insight on the program. Light refreshments will be served at the event.
