RHS Sports recap: Friday, Dec. 20
Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 76, Tomahawk 22
The Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team remained unbeaten Friday night, cruising past Tomahawk 76-22 at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.
The Hoags led wire-to-wire and went on a 30-9 run over the last 9:10 of the first half to take a 48-18 lead to halftime.
Evan Shoeder led the Hodags with 15 points, Abe Gretzinger had 14 points and five rebounds while Devon Feck added seven points and 11 assists. Rhinelander’s leading scorer Truman Lamers suited but did not play in the game due to an undisclosed medical reason.
Tyler Sundquist scored 10 to lead Tomahawk
The Hodags (6-0, 3-0 Great Northern) will play Ripon in Wisconsin Dells Dec. 27.
Girls’ basketball: Rhinelander 67, Tomahawk 31
The RHS girls’ basketball team closed on the first half on a 24-2 run to cruise past Tomahawk on the road 67-31 on Friday night.
The Hodags’ led 19-14 midway through the first half before the surge extended the lead to 43-16 at the break. Aubryn Clark score 29 to lead the Hodags while Vivian Lamers added 18. Freya Alberg scored 13 to lead the Hatchets.
Rhinelander (7-1, 4-0 Great Northern) will play Ripon in Wisconsin Dells Dec. 27.
Wrestling: RHS boys 11th/25, girls 9th/17, Hodag Scramble
The RHS wrestling team the Hodag Scramble in the Hodag Dome on Friday with the Hodag boys placing 11th out of 25 teams and the Hodag girls taking ninth of 17 teams.
Reid Schultz was the runner-up in the boys’ 285 pound weight class, pinning his first three opponents before getting pinned by Hayward’s Micah Butler in the finals. Logan Schwinger went 4-1 on the day with four pins as he took fifth at 190 pounds and Hoyt Dantoin made the top bracket at 132, placing eighth.
On the girls’ side, Mya Swanson on an eight-wrestler bracket at 126 pounds, pinning Cameron’s Reyanna Ladd in the finals. Teammate Cassidy Linder finished fourth in the same weight class and Miranda Daab was fifth at 235.
A handful of Hodag wrestlers will travel to River Falls for the Northern Badger Invite Dec. 27 and 28.
