Girls' hockey: Eagles co-op drops two in Medford
The Northland Pines girls’ hockey co-op lost both of its games over the weekend in the Medford Invite, falling 3-0 to Arrowhead Friday night and 5-0 to Brookfield on Saturday.
The Eagles allowed three goals in the first period on Friday night, which proved to be the difference in the contest. Shots were 36-10 in favor of the Warhawks. Northland Pines freshman Lucy Nowak made 33 saves in the loss.
The Eagles (1-4-0) played a scoreless first period with the Glacier on Saturday, but gave up two goals in the second and three in the third. Further details from that game were not available as of press time.
The Eagles co-op, which includes six skaters from Rhinelander, will play three times this week — including a return trip to Medford tonight to face the Raiders. Pines scored its lone win of the season over Medford in a 4-3 overtime decision in Eagle River Nov. 26.
The co-op will play in Rhinelander for the only time this season Thursday against Fox Cities in a 7 p.m. faceoff at the Rhinelander Ice Arena before returning to Eagle River Friday to face Black River Falls.
