Area churches to hold Blue Christmas service

Rhinelander area churches invite the community to a Blue Christmas service at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 19.

The service will be hosted by Calvary Baptist Church, 320 Lincoln Street, in Rhinelander.

A Blue Christmas is designed for those who are grieving, hurting or struggling during the Christmas season. According to Pastor Rod Ankrom at Calvary, “Some people come because there is an ‘empty chair’ around the table — they are mourning the death of someone they love. Some are far from home. Some people are lonely — others are struggling with conflict, addiction or pain. Some people just look at the violence and stress and difficulties in the world and feel a profound sense of sadness. There are so many reasons why someone may not feel all that ‘merry’ at Christmas. But it is during challenging times that we find the hope we need in a quiet, but deeply meaningful, reflection on the birth of Jesus Christ.”
