Remembering the Battle of the Bulge
To the Editor:
December 16 marks the 80th anniversary of the World War II Battle of the Bulge which was fought in the Ardennes area of Europe.
The monumental failure of American intelligence allowed 500,000 German troops to surprise and attack the American army, creating a large bulge in the American line.
World War II historian Charles McDonald, in his book “A Time for Trumpets” wrote “the victory in the Ardennes belonged to the American soldier.”
His was a story to be told to the sound of trumpets.
They are mostly all gone now, but they should never be forgotten.
God bless them all.
