Fire heavily damages St. Germain home
Firefighters from three area fire departments responded to the report of a house fire Monday evening.
According to a press release from the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, the dispatch center received a report before 7 p.m. of a house on fire on State Highway 155 in St. Germain.
St. Germain firefighters were called in first and then personnel and equipment from Plum Lake and Arbor Vitae on a mutual aid basis.
On arrival, the press release states, “smoke could be seen coming from the home and there were visible flames inside the structure.”
“The homeowner was home at the time of the fire and was able to evacuate the structure prior to calling 911,” the press release said. “Based on the initial investigation, it appears the fire may have started in the kitchen and spread throughout the house into the attic. The cause is still under investigation.”
The structure received heavy damage.
