Passenger dies following one-vehicle accident in Sugar Camp

By River News Staff

One person died following a one-vehicle accident Friday morning in the Town of Sugar Camp.

According to the Oneida County sheriff’s office, the crash took place at approximately 10 a.m. on Highway 17 near the intersection of Sunset Road.

“Upon arriving, responding units found one vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree,” sheriff’s captain Tyler Young said in a press release. “Icy road conditions were a contributing factor to the accident. The driver had sustained minor injuries. After being extricated from the vehicle, the passenger was transported by ambulance to Aspirus Hospital in Rhinelander. Shortly after arriving, the passenger was pronounced deceased.”

The name of the deceased was not immediately released.

The sheriff’s office will be completing the investigation of the accident. The Sugar Camp Fire Department and Oneida County Ambulance assisted at the scene.
