RHS Sports recap: Thursday, Dec. 5
Boys’ hockey: Antigo 6, Rhinelander 4
The Rhinelander High School boys’ hockey team allowed three, third-period goals and fell to Antigo 6-4 Thursday night in the GNC opener in Antigo.
Drake Nelson had a hat trick for Rhinelander and Carson Plehn added his first career varsity gaol as Rhineladner led 4-2 late in the second period, but the Robins scored with 31 seconds left in the second, and again on the power play to tie it a minute into the third.
Owen Dickman scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 8:41 mark of the third and Liam Burt added an insurance goal with 3:55 remaining.
The Hodags lost despite outshooting Antigo 40-26 in the game. Asher Rivord made 20 saves in defeat.
Rhinelander (1-2-0, 0-1-0-0 Great Northern) hosts Oshkosh in non-conference play on Saturday.
Boys’ swimming: Rhinelander 138, Lakeland 13
The Rhinelander High School boys’ swim team won all 11 events against a short-handed Lakeland squad and defeated the T-Birds 138-13 Thursday at the Heck Family Community Pool.
Shawn Denis and Judson O’Malley were four-event winners for Rhinelander. Denis won the 200 medley and 100 breaststroke while O’Malley took the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke and both were on winning relays.
Dean Gillingham won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, Mathias Fugle claimed the 100 freestyle and Chris Larson scored the win in the 500. In all eight Hodags played a role in at least one race win.
The Hodags (2-0 Great Northern) travel to Tomahawk next Thursday.
