RHS Sports recap: Friday, Dec. 6


Boys’ basketball: Rhinelander 69, Antigo 40


The Rhinelander High School boys’ basketball team blitzed Antigo, using an extended 37-5 run in the first half to cruise past the Red Robins 69-40 in GNC play Friday at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.


Truman Lamers and Devon Feck combined for 30 points in the first half alone as the Hodags led 39-13 at the break. Lamers finished with a game-high 20 points, Feck had 16 and Evan Shoeder just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.


Ethan Buchmann scored 13 to pace Antigo, which was held to 20% (11 of 55) shooting on the night.


The win was the 199th in the career for RHS boys’ basketball coach Derek Lemmens. He’ll go for No. 200 Tuesday night as the Hodags (2-0, 1-0 Great Northern) host Wittenberg-Birnamwood.


Girls’ basketball: Rhinelander 75, Antigo 35


The RHS girls’ basketball team led wire-to-wire Friday night and defeated Antigo 75-35 at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium. 


Despite shooting 31% from the floor in the first half (11 of 35), the Hodags still managed to lead 43-20 at the break and then got the advantage over 30 points with a 9-2 run to start the second half. 


Aubyrn Clark led Rhinelander with 24 points while Vivian Lamers added a career-high 17 points. Kelsey Winter and Dawsyn Barkus each scored eight for the Hodags.


Tristin Arlen led Antigo with 11. 


Rhinelander (5-1, 2-0 Great Northern) hosts Northland Pines next Friday.


Girls’ wrestling: Rhinelander 14th/23, Antigo Invite


All three wrestlers who competed Friday night won multiple matches as the Hodag girls’ wrestling squad took 14th out of 23 teams in Antigo. 


Freshman Miranda Daab placed highest for the Hodags, winning each of her first two matches to earn a spot in the championship bracket at 235 pounds, where she finished fourth. Mya Swanson went 2-2 on the night and took sixth at 132. Cassidy Lindner won three matches and finished seventh at 126.


The next girls’ tournament for Rhinelander is the Hodag Invite Dec. 20. The Hodag boys’ wrestling team will compete in Antigo on Saturday.
