Thomas H. Hiebing, 88, a resident of Arbor Vitae, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024. Tom was born January 11, 1936, in Sheboygan, to George and Ida Hiebing, the youngest of four children.
His early work history began doing delivery for Zarling, and then at American Chair Company. Tom began a career as a machinist at Kohler Company, and continued machinist work in the oilfield industry after moving to Longview, Texas in 1979. From machinist, Tom moved on to restauranteur. Tom and his wife Betty ran a German food restaurant in Longview, and later on another after moving to Rhinelander.
Tom will be remembered by his family for the many camping trips he arranged every summer, which sometimes included midnight snipe hunting hikes. Every winter, drives to the steep, ice-covered country roads for sled riding was a sure thing. Those closest to Tom will remember him for his creative genius, his sense of style, and his cooking wizardry.
Thomas was preceded in death by Betty, his wife of 67 years; infant son Peter; his parents; sister Charlotte Kovacic; brothers John and Frederick.
Thomas is survived by six children: Roxann, Dale, Philip, George, Charlene and Brian. And by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. We will treasure all the wonderful memories we have because of Thomas and he will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with Mass to follow at 11. Burial will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Woodruff after services.
