As the School District of Rhinelander prepares for construction of new technical education facilities at James Williams Middle School and Rhinelander High School in 2025, the board of education has finalized a facility naming and sponsorship plan.

In recognition of his $500,000 donation to the tech ed project, the district is planning to erect a recognition wall at Rhinelander High School in honor of Dr. Lee Swank.

“The recognition wall is available for any individuals, groups, and business partners,” superintendent Eric Burke explained in a press release. “Donations made through the Recognition Plan will support the purchase of equipment, supplies, and trainings beyond what is funded by the Capital Project referendum. Contributions can be allocated for immediate use or to sustain and enhance facilities over time.”

The $500,000 donation for tech ed improvements is Swank’s second major financial gift to the children and community of Rhinelander. His $500,000 donation back in 2019 sparked the construction of the 128,000 square foot Hodag Dome which has become one of the community’s marquee facilities.

The district’s operations and strategic planning committee discussed the naming and sponsorship plan during its Aug. 12 meeting and the full school board signed off on it on Aug. 19.
