NAMI Northern Lakes to host crisis intervention training at Nicolet College
NAMI Northern Lakes Wisconsin will hold a Crisis Intervention Partners (CIP) training — a free, two-day workshop designed to strengthen the skills of professionals who are often the first to encounter individuals experiencing mental health crises — from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 12 and 13 at the Nicolet College Northwoods Center.
This training is tailored for a wide range of professionals, including correctional officers, 911 dispatchers, emergency personnel, hospital staff, teachers and social workers, according to a NAMI press release. Participants will receive comprehensive instruction on key topics such as human development, the impact of trauma, understanding mental illnesses, crisis de-escalation techniques, active listening, self-care, and simulation exercises that provide real-world application of these skills.
“NAMI Northern Lakes is dedicated to improving the community’s ability to respond to mental health crises with empathy, understanding and effectiveness,” said Kristin Bonamo, executive director for NAMI Northern Lakes.
“This training is a valuable opportunity for professionals to gain the knowledge and skills they need to make a positive impact during some of the most challenging situations,” Bonamo added.
The CIP Training is designed to re-train participants, encouraging them to examine their attitudes and beliefs and refine their verbal and non-verbal communication skills. By participating in this training, professionals will be better equipped to manage crisis situations, ensuring a more compassionate and effective response, the release states.
Key features of the training include:
• In-depth Learning: Topics include trauma impact, mental health conditions, crisis de-escalation and more.
• Interactive Sessions: Participants will engage in simulations and exercises to practice their skills.
Attendees will be served lunch at no cost. The training is open to all eligible professionals in the region. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. Visit https://manage.tix.com/identity/login?next=/ticketsales/tix/7160/event/1393639.
