Michael (Schultie) Schultz

Michael (Schultzie) Schultz, age 75, of Rhinelander, passed away on Aug. 16, 2024, at Tomahawk Health Services. He was born on February 26, 1949, in Rhinelander, to Douglas and Mary Schultz.

He attended schools in Rhinelander graduating from Rhinelander High School in 1967. Mike achieved many accomplishments in sports, whether it be football, baseballs, billiards, etc. After high school he went on to serve his country in the United States Army for 21 years. While in the service, he married Kay Brothers and had a son, Jon. In April of 1979, Mike married the love of his life, Helen Wanty, and together they had a son Christopher.

Mike owned and operated Schultzie’s Tavern on Rives Street, after that he purchased the Woodpecker inn on Highway K and ran it as Schultzie’s Circle K Saloon. Anyone that knew Mike loved him.

He is survived by his sons Jon (Nikki) Bearson of St. Petersburg, Fla., Christopher (Rachael Johnson) Schultz of Neenah, his grandchildren Gage, Hannah and Chloe, his siblings Sue (Donald) Jepson and Debbie (Mike) White. He was preceded in death by his son Sean Ruge and grandchild, Matthew.

The family would like to thank Grace Lodge of Rhinelander and Tomahawk Health Services in Tomahawk for their outstanding care. They would also like to extend a thank you to Mike’s special friends Kathy Lee Burton and Tammy Marquardt for their many years of care and love for Mike.

There will be a graveside service for Mike held on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, at 1 p.m., with full military honors, at the Northwoods National Cemetery in Harshaw.
