Tammy Javenkoski, a member of the Northwoods Veterans Homestead (NVH) Board of Directors, accepts a donation check from Aaron Schultz, owner of Big Daddy’s Bar in Rhinelander, for the Northwoods Veterans Homestead project. Last year NVH purchased just under four acres of land three miles east of Rhinelander to build 16 tiny homes and a community center for homeless veterans. The tiny homes will house one individual each, where they will stay free of charge while receiving case management services to become self-sufficient. The village, designed to be a temporary haven for veterans to stay while they navigate programs based on their individual needs ranging from a few short months up to two years. The community center will be 6,200 sq. ft. and have a full kitchen/pantry, restroom, showers, laundry, recreation room, conference rooms, therapy offices including telehealth, and employee offices. The property will also have a greenhouse where vegetables can be grown, outside therapy areas, and memorial sites. Several fundraisers to benefit the project will be held later this year. A cornhole tournament will be held on Sept. 21 at Twin Pines in Rhinelander and on Nov. 9 a Pig Roast will take place at Cabaret Cove. In addition, in early September, an investment portfolio will be available for those interested in investing in the project. Visit www.northwoodsveteranshomestead.org for more information.
