Rhinelander city-wide garage sale an opportunity to support NAMI Northern Lakes

Rhinelander is gearing up for the annual city-wide garage sale on August 17.

“This annual event offers residents the perfect chance to clear out their homes while making a real difference in our community. Those who are participating in the city-wide sale are encouraged to think of NAMI Northern Lakes if they’re looking to donate their sale proceeds to an area non-profit,” NAMI officials said in a press release. “An easy way to do so is by utilizing NAMI’s new fundraising tool, ‘Do-It-Your-Way.’”

According to the press release, the tool encourages mental health supporters to turn activities and hobbies into a fundraising initiative. Participants decide what they want to do (e.g. a garage sale or athletic event) and design their own fundraising campaign on behalf of NAMI Northern Lakes. NAMI Northern Lakes serves Oneida, Vilas, and Forest counties by offering a variety of free programs and services to individuals and families affected by mental illness. Their offerings include a peer-run drop-in center, peer and family support groups, as well as education and outreach programs. These services are crucial in filling the gaps left by the mental health system, and community support is vital for NAMI Northern Lakes to continue its mission, the release states.
