The Northwood Golf Club Ladies League had a record-breaking event Tuesday, Aug. 6 as it held its annual Pink Night for breast cancer awareness in conjunction with ladies league play at the course.
Event coordinator Carole Zierden stated the event attracted 51 golfers in a joint effort between the Northwood Ladies League and the ladies league at Inshalla Country Club in Tomahawk. Additionally, the event brought in a record $6,400 — up more than $1,000 from the previous record set in 2023.
“We had a great showing from the Rhinelander ladies and the Inshalla ladies,” Zierden said. “This was the biggest group we’ve ever had attend to the function. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day. The sun, everything cooperated. We just had a wonderful, wonderful evening.”
Money raised from the event will support two local cancer organizations — the James Beck Cancer Center at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital and the Ties that Bind Us at Aspirus Tomahawk Hospital. Zierden said, since its inception in 2009, the event has raised just under $35,000 — the majority of which was been donated locally.
“It was unreal. It was great. I can thank enough people — my committee, the Northwood Golf Club, the ladies from Inshalla that attended the event, our Northwood ladies that are part of our league and the businesses and individuals in Rhinelander really, really showed their support,” Zierden said.
