Habitat for Humanity in need of residential building sites

Habitat for Humanity Northwoods is looking for residential building sites in the Northwoods.

“Habitat is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping families with affordable home ownership,” executive director Dave Havel explained in a press release. “We rely on volunteer help, donated services, donated materials and donated or inexpensive land to keep costs down.”

Habitat has been building homes in Oneida and Vilas counties for over 25 years.

“The need has never been greater as construction costs and rising interest rates prevent many families from obtaining home ownership,” the release states. “At this time Habitat is looking for residential building sites in our two counties. We are counting on the generosity of community members to either donate land or sell parcels inexpensively. Holding land acquisition costs down means we can hold sale prices down. More families will then be qualified.”

The organization stresses that Habitat families do not receive a home for free.

“Habitat families must qualify for mortgage financing, currently have inadequate housing and be willing to partner with our construction team in providing sweat equity,” the release notes.

Anyone interested in helping Habitat’s mission with donated land is asked to contact Havel at 715-490-2309 or [email protected].
