Gov. Tony Evers, center, and WisDOT Secretary Craig Thompson (in blue) stopped at the Pelican Fire Station Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 6, 2024 to discuss roads and bridges with Oneida County Highway Commissioner Alex Hegeman and Pelican Fire Chief and town chairman Dave Hollands. Evers and Thompson visited the station to highlight the next cycle of funding awarded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) for local road and bridge projects. The DOT administers the funding to local communities through the Surface Transportation Program (STP). Evers noted that he has made fixing Wisconsin’s roads a top priority, and his administration has improved more than 7,400 miles of roads, including more than 3,700 miles of locally owned roads and 1,780 bridges since 2019.
