Girls’ soccer: Lakeland 1, Rhinelander 0

The Hodags outshot the T-Birds 13-8 in the match — including an 11-3 margin in the second half — but could never find the equalizer as they fell five points adrift in the conference standings. The Hodags held a slight 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Mya Krouze made four saves in the loss.
Rhinelander (7-1-2, 3-1-0-1 Great Northern) return to action May 7 at home against Mosinee.

The Evergreens scored twice in the second inning, twice more in the fifth and put the game away with a four-run seventh.
The Hodags managed only five hits of Logan Cherek, who went the distance for Everest. Dylan Vanderbunt had three of those hits, continuing his streak of multi-hit games. Vanderbunt took the loss on the hill for Rhinelander, giving up seven runs on eight hits with a walk and five strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings.

Boys’ tennis: Stevens Point 4, Rhinelander 3

Stevens Point’s Mitchell Thielman rallied from a 6-1 first set loss to beat Rhinelander’s John Currie over the final two sets 7-6 (4) and 7-5 to claim the clinching point. SPASH swept singles in the match, including a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 loss for Rhinelander’s Karter Massey at No. 4 singles.
The Hdoags swept doubles as Joey Belanger/Dalton Fritz, Gavin Denis/Dawson Pontell and Aiden Ostermann/Michael Schiek were all straight-set winners.
