RHS Sports recap: Friday, April 26

Softball: Medford 11, Rhinelander 1
The RHS softball team gave up eight runs in the first inning and fell at Medford 11-1 on Friday.
The Raiders tacked on one more run in the third and two in the fourth. The Hodags’ lone run game in the top of the fourth as Kelsi Beran singled and scored on a base hit by Nevaeh Anderson.
Anderson took the loss for Rhinelander, lasting only 1/3 of an inning. Kelsey Winter pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief, allowing three runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Rhinelander (1-10, 1-6 Great Northern) travels to Northland Pines on Tuesday.
Boys’ tennis: Rhinelander 1-2, Wausau West Invite
The Rhinelander High School boys’ tennis team won one of its three matches Friday in the Wausau West Invite. The Hodags lost to Oshkosh West 6-1, beat Marshfield 5-2 and lost to Menomonie 7-0.
The No. 3 doubles pair of Aiden Ostermann and Michael Schiek scored the Hodags’ lone win against Oshkosh West. The Hodags swept doubles against Marshfield with Joey Belanger/Dalton Fritz, Gavin Denis/Dawson Pontell and Ostermann/Schiek. John Currie and Calvin Loomis also picked up wins at Nos. 1 and 4 singles, respectively.
The Hodags are slated to be back in Wausau on Saturday for the final day of the two-day meet.
Golf: Rhinelander 3rd/7, GNC Meet No. 2
Rhinelander shot 339 on Friday and finished third in the second leg of the Great Northern Conference golf meet at Black River Golf Course in Medford.
Sophomore Blake Petroff shot a career-best round of 80 to take seventh on the day. Brody Kowieski tied for ninth with an 83. Sam Schoppe finished one stroke outside of the conference points, taking 11th with an 84. Hank Kowieski shot 92 and Chase West shot 109.
The Hodags head to Pine Valley Golf Course Monday for the Marathon Invite.
