Eight Rhinelander High School students traveled to Green Bay for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference April 7-9. Approximately 2,400 students attended the conference, each with the goal of making it to national competition in Orlando, Fla.
Rhinelander students competed in various business-related events including Accounting, Business Communications, and Personal Finance, all of which required taking a 100-question test as well as presentation events and participation in a leadership academy. In addition to competing, students attended workshops, took tours of prominent Green Bay businesses, and met other students from across the state, according to a press release.
For each event, the top four places qualify an individual or team for Nationals.
For Rhinelander, Eva Hetland placed 4th in Public Speaking and Kate Ripple took second place in Business Communications. The team of Cassie Burke, Payton McCue, and Alyssa Smits came home as state champions, placing first in the Community Service Project. Also recognized were Alyssa Smits, 7th place in Future Business Leader, and Aiden Ostermann, 8th place in Personal Finance.
Rhinelander was also recognized for its community service efforts based on the amount of time and number of members who have helped complete several projects throughout the year, especially Trick or Can, Fall Fest, Santa Letters, and Jeans For Teens. For their efforts, Rhinelander placed second in Community Service.
The five students who qualified have the opportunity to go to Orlando from June 27-July 3 and compete against students from all 50 states.
