RHS Sports recap: Monday, April 22
Baseball: Antigo 7, Rhinelander 5
The Rhinelander High School baseball team could not fully overcome a slow start Monday as if fell to Antigo 7-5 in Great Northern Conference play at Stafford Field.
After falling behind 5-1 in the third — with three runs unearned due to three Hodag errors — Rhinelander tied the game in a four-run fourth. Antigo scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the sixth while Owen Kurtz struck out for Rhinelander with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the inning. The Robins tacked on one more run on a passed ball in the seventh.
Oscar Hanson took the loss for Rhinelander, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts over the final two innings. Max Ratty gave up five runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts in a no-decision. The Hodags had a season high 12 hits in the game, led by Kaden Vanney, who went 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs.
Rhinelander (1-7, 1-3 Great Northern) travels to Medford on Tuesday.
