Eagle River Speedway honors 2023 champs at banquet
Track champions in seven divisions were crowned as Eagle River Speedway hosted its 2023 awards banquet at Chef Rene’s at Eagle River Inn Saturday, April 13.
Hometown driver Jason Zdroik led the way earning track titles in two classes. Zdroik copped crowns in both the Chef Rene B-Modified and Sweetwater Late Model divisions, respectively.
Hometown driver David Blackberg scored the track title in the Coffen Construction Stock Car division while Sugar Camp’s Jason Eisel accomplished the same feat in the Eagle River Dock and Lift Street Stocks.
When it came to the winged divisions a bulk of the hardware headed home to Escanaba, Michigan. Brothers Bentley Richer and Chase Richer each picked up track championships in the 300 and 600 Micro divisions, respectively.
Phillips’ Devin Fries picked up the Pure Stock title.
Rookie of the year honors went to Eagle River drivers Austin Zdroik (Late Models), Ryan Brown (B-Mods) and Quentin “Iceman” Morrison (Street Stocks), as well as Minocqua’s Max Nowak (600 Micro Sprints) and Rhinelander’s Blake Joslin (300 Micro Sprints).
Green Bay’s Patrick Farley Jr. picked up the Most Improved Driver award in the Stock Car class while former track champion Jesse Aho of Twin Lakes, Mich. earned the track’s driver sportsmanship award. Aho announced plans to move into the Late Model class for 2024.
The 15-date, 2024 racing season is set to kick off Sunday, May 26 at the third-mile, clay oval. Regular Tuesday night racing is set to begin June 11.
