RHS Sports recap: Monday, April 15
Baseball: Northland Pines 8, Rhinelander 5, 8 inn.
The Rhinelander High School baseball team was not able to hold on to a late-inning lead and fell in extra innings to Northland Pines, 8-5 Monday at Stafford Field.
The Hodags led 5-3 after a four-run fifth inning, but gave up a run in the sixth and saw the Eagles tie it on a two-out single in the seventh. After going down in order in their half of the seventh, the Hodags allowed three runs in the top of the eighth, keyed by a Jonathan Miller two-run double, which proved to be the difference.
Max Ratty gave up four runs on seven hits over six innings in a no-decision. Owen Kurtz walked four over an inning-plus of relief and took the loss. The Hodags had hits from seven different players in the game. Adrian Patrone and James Heck each singled and drove in two.
Rhinelander (0-6, 0-2 Great Northern) will get a rematch with the Eagles in Eagle River on Thursday.
