Terry Lynn Doberstein, age 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff, where she received compassionate care by remarkable staff.
Terry was born on June 19, 1945, in Stanley, to Lester and Wanda Jens. Terry grew up in Owen and spent summers with extended family on Soo Lake in Phillips, which she treasured.
Terry graduated from Owen-Withee High School, attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point to pursue a degree in Education. She was then pursued by Daniel Doberstein. They married in 1964 and she became the wife of a Marine.
Together, Dan and Terry traveled to California, Virgina, Florida, then back to Owen, where Terry stayed with family while Dan served in Vietnam. Once reunited, Dan and Terry lived in many Wisconsin cities over the years: Owen, Marshfield, Oshkosh, DeForest and settled in Rhinelander.
Terry, a happy homemaker, and marvelous mother to her three children, managed to make every move a wonderful adventure. Terry opened her home and heart to many other children, providing childcare. She also worked as a teacher’s aide while in DeForest.
Once settled in Rhinelander, she continued to work with children at Nicolet Daycare Center, Montessori School and became a beloved teacher at Children’s Learning Center, known as Miss Terry and later Grandma Terry to many in the community.
Terry is survived by her children, Heidi (Doberstein) Karrmann, Dana (Doberstein) & Charles Durkee, Junior, Ryan Doberstein, and wife, Brittany Beyer; her grandchildren, Jacob, Maddy, Jake, Kevyn, Mason, Jenna, Maxwell, Marshal; her siblings, Timothy & Waverly Jens, Betsy & John Rassmussen, and Linda Jens.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Daniel Doberstein, her parents and her brother, Jeffery Jens.
Terry loved being with family, especially her grandchildren.
After her cancer diagnosis, Terry, often known as being the “life of the party”, hosted a celebration of life with a family reunion on Soo Lake in Phillips.
Per her request, Terry and her husband will be put to rest together in Phillips in a private family service.
Her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her and lives she touched.
