Rhinelander swimmers compete at Y Nationals

Four Rhinelander High School swimmers participated in the YMCA Short Course Nationals swim meet held in Greensboro, N.C. April 1-6. Abi Winnicki, Ellyse Younker, Brock Arrowood and Samson Shinners took part, swimming for the Woodson YMCA out of Wausau. 

Winnicki, a senior and UCLA recruit, had the most extensive program. Individually, she placed 11th in the 200-yard backstroke (2 minutes, 0.07 seconds), 20th in the 500 freestyle (4:59.94), 23rd in the 200 freestyle (1:53.58) and 37th in the 100 freestyle (52.87). She took 17th as part of the club’s 400 medley relay, 20th in the 200 medley relay and 23rd in the 200 freestyle relay.

Younker swam with Winnicki on the 400 medley relay and was 32nd as part of the 400 freestyle relay. Individually, she was 86th in the 100 butterfly (59.35).

Shinners competed in three events and took 103rd, individually, in the 200 freestyle (1:48.34). He was on a 200 freestyle relay that took sixth and a 400 freestyle relay that finished 24th. Arrowood swam in one event, taking 143rd in the 100 butterfly (53.98).
