Girls’ swimming: Rhinelander 140, Mosinee 21
The RHS girls’ swim team achieved perfection, and broke a couple of records to boot, as it defeated Mosinee 140-21 at the Heck Family Community Pool on Thursday.
The Hodags scored maximum points every event — finishing 1-2-3 in all eight individual races and 1-2 in all three relays — and achieved a perfect dual meet score of 140 points.
Senior Abi Winnicki, after narrowly missing on Saturday, took down the longest-standing RHS girls’ swim team record as she won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5 minutes, 7.99 seconds. That eclipsed the mark of 5:10.27 set in 1979 by Karen Burton-Reeder. The Hodags also set a Heck Pool record in the 400 freestyle relay with the team of Karis Francis, Vivian Lamers, Celia Francis and Abi Winnicki (3:38.10).
In all 10 different swimmer played a role in at least one victory for the Hodags on Thursday.
Rhinelander (5-0 GNC) returns to action Saturday at the Fond du Lac Invite.
Boys’ soccer: Rhinelander 8, Antigo 0
The Rhinelander High School boys’ soccer team finally got its offense going on Thursday as it routed Antigo 8-0 at Mike Webster Stadium.
