Oneida County 4H youth educator Anne Williams has announced that enrollment in the Oneida County 4H program is now open.
4-H, America’s largest youth development organization, is an out-of-school, hands-on learning program. Youth ages 5-19 can join for free by visiting https://oneida.extension.wisc.edu or by calling 715-365-2750.
Families can choose how they want to participate in 4-H, according to a press release announcing the enrollment period. The options include:
4-H Community Club: 4-H community clubs are for youth of all grade levels, guided by the 4-H Educator, and meet regularly in a community space. Youth are elected to guide the activities of the club and all youth members are given opportunities to make decisions and share their ideas. 4-H clubs are excellent ways for youth to gain confidence and leadership skills and meet new friends. Participating in a 4-H community club is the best way to be introduced to 4-H.
Specific Topic Clubs: As a 4-H member, youth have many opportunities to find their “spark” through experiences at the club, county, state, and national level (a “spark” is something that inspires curiosity, feels exciting, and you’d like to learn more about).
Oneida County 4-H is currently offering programming in 4-H LEGO Robotics, small pets, rabbits, sewing, and theater.
Topic clubs or groups can be formed at any time. Youth can also pick a topic that’s interesting to them and can be connected to peers and caring adults as they explore it.
Countywide events: Oneida County 4-H offers awards, recognition and events, such as the Oneida County Youth Creative Arts & Communication Expo.
“Being a member of Oneida County 4-H makes you eligible to participate in state and national programs such as Art Camps, Space Camp, Summer Academy at UW-Madison, Washington D.C., and more,” the release states. “From national trips, joining statewide teams, to exploring the world, the possibilities are (almost) endless. Many 4-H alumni share inspirational stories about how much they gained (such as new friends, independence, and travel in new communities) from their statewide experiences.”
Oneida County 4-H is also looking for dedicated volunteers who want to engage in youth programming and positively impact local youth. For more information, contact Williams, Oneida County 4-H Program Educator, [email protected].
