RNC mountain bike teams score top-10 finishes in Eau Claire
The Rhinelander-Northwoods Composite Mountain Bike team took seventh, and its Rhinelander High School counterparts finished 10th, Sunday in Round 3 of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Cycling League season at Lowes Creek in Eau Claire.
Macy Lester led the RNC contingent made up of schools in and around the Rhinelander area. She took home second in the varsity girls’ race completing a roughly 21-mile course in 1 hour, 19 minutes, 21.38 seconds, finishing just two seconds off the pace.
Cody Price was ninth in the JV-3 boys’ race, William Gregersen was 12th in the JV-2 boys’ race and Everett Smith was 22nd in the freshman boys’ race.
Sophomore Holden Schmitz finished fifth in the JV-3 boys’ division, covering roughly 16 minutes in 55:57.75, to lead the RHS contingent. Emma Mankus was 11th in the JV-2 girls’ race, Michael Tredupp was 17th in the freshman boys’ race and Nathan Cody was 18th in the JV-2 boys’ race.
In middle school competition, Henry Schmitz was fourth in the eighth-grade boys’ race while Tyler Price took 13th. The RHS/RNC group had five riders in the sixth-grade boys’ division, led by Hans Sommer in seventh. Jacob MacFarland took 10th, Emmett Tuckey was 22nd, Jase Houg was 26th and Alexander Rusch finished 27th.
The race was one of four split weekends for the WICL, with only half of the participating programs in attendance. The other half races at Minooka Park in Waukesha the previous weekend. After three events, RNC sits 20th overall in the Division 2 standings while RHS is 26th.
The entire WICL contingent will be back together this coming Sunday for Round 4 at Englewood Farm in Fall River.
