Color Run, vigil planned in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Tri-County Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault is organizing a number of events in the coming weeks to raise awareness of domestic violence.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

All events are free of charge and are conveniently located at Hodag Park.

The organization will kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a Color Run from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 30  called “Painting Silence Purple,” where a variety of purple shades will paint the town purple.

“This 5k run/walk is family friendly and perfect for any age or fitness level,” organizers said in a press release. “Local community contributors have sponsored this event to make registration completely free. The first 100 registrants will receive a white logo T-shirt and a giveaway bag full of goodies to use at the event.”

Registration can be completed at EventBrite or by directly contacting Tri-County Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault at 715-362-6841.

On Friday, Oct. 6, the organization will hold the “Remember My Name” annual candlelight vigil for victims of domestic violence homicide in Wisconsin.

The event will take at the Hodag Park Amphitheater from 7 to 8 p.m. This event honors those lives lost and helps to raise awareness within our community, organizers said. Participation is not required to join.

Later that evening, the organization will host the “Letting Go,” Cleansing Burn Ceremony.

“This offers a chance for survivors to cleanse harm from their heart as they choose to heal from past events,” the release states.

A large bonfire will be lit at 8 p.m. at the Hodag Park boat launch. Participants will have a chance to bring a written letter (or other paper article) that symbolizes something they wish to heal from, and they can place it into the fire as a semblance of letting go. Participation is not required to join.
