RHS Sports recap: Monday, Sept. 18
Girls’ tennis: Rhinelander 6, Marshfield Columbus 1
The Rhinelander High School girls’ tennis team stayed alive in the GNC title race with a convincing 6-1 victory at Marshfield Columbus on Monday.
The Hodags got a three-set win at No. 1 singles by Tori Riopel over Akosua Yeboah and dropped a total of three games in a doubles sweep with Kayla Tessmann/Karmen Lopez, Brooke Sisel/Evelyn Sawyer and Teagan Turcotte/Willow VanDenHeuvel.
Rhinelander added wins with Shayla Coppenger and Maya Patrick at Nos. 3 and 4 singles.
The Hodags trail Wausau Newman by eight points and Lakeland by four points for the GNC lead heading into Tuesday’s GNC dual meet finale at Lakeland. The Hodags would take over first place in the standings with a win of 5-2 or greater.
