Boys’ soccer: Mosinee 1, Rhinelander 1 (Mosinee 5-4 PKs)

The Rhinelander High School boys’ soccer team played to its third straight draw Tuesday night, trading a pair of late goals in a 1-1 tie with Mosinee at Mike Webster Stadium. Mosinee took the penalty kick shootout at the end of regulation, 5-4, for an extra conference point. 

Trevor Tazelaar knocked in a rebound off a free kick in the 70th minute to put Mosinee ahead 1-0, but the lead was short-lived as Aidan Ostermann tied it with a rebound goal of his own moments later.

Mason Shinners, Will Gertzinger, Neil Weigel and Matthew King converted in penalties while Barak Rappley stopped a shot by Mosinee’s fifth shooter, Greyson Gabrielski, to force extra kicks. After Rhinelander’s Michael Schiek missed the frame, Tucker Kowalski found the upper left corner to win the shootout for Mosinee.

Mosinee outshot Rhinelander 16-6 in the second half and 25-14 in the match. Rappley made nine saves for the Hodags in the draw.

Rhinelander (4-1-3, 3-0-1-0 Great Northern) travels to Northland Pines on Thursday.

Volleyball: Mosinee 3, Rhinelander 0

The Rhinelander High School volleyball team was swept in three sets at Mosinee in GNC play Tuesday night 25-17, 24-15, 25-23.

Lily Treder paced Rhineladner six kills on the night, Kelsi Beran had five kills, Lucy Lindner had eight assists and Emma Chiamulera had 15 digs.

Rhinelander (8-9, 0-3 Great Northern) will face Medford and Tomahawk Saturday in the Great Northern Conference tournament in Antigo.

Girls’ tennis: Rhinelander at Marshfield Columbus, ppd.

Afternoon thunderstorms forced the postponement of the Rhinelander High School girls’ tennis team’s match at Marshfield Columbus on Tuesday. Hodag coach Matt Nichols said the teams will make up the Great Northern Conference dual Monday, Sept. 18.

Rhinelander (13-13, 3-1 Great Northern) will host Antigo on Thursday.
