RNC mountain bike teams conclude season
The Rhinelander Northwoods Composite mountain bike team concluded its 2023 season on Sunday in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Cycling League finals at Trek Trails in Waterloo.
The RNC squad, made up of schools surrounding Rhinelander, finished 16th out of 58 teams in the Division 2 standings on the day. The Rhinelander High School squad, short on riders Sunday, took 47th.
Macy Lester paced the RNC partition, finishing eighth in the varsity girls’ race, completing a roughly 20-mile course in 1 hour, 40 minutes, 30.20 seconds. Cody Price was 11th in the JV-3 boys’ race (1:01:52.10, 13.3 miles). Kylie Lester was 21st in the JV-2 girls’ race (1:02:36.72, 11.2), William Gregersen took 51st in the JV-2 boys’ race (59:05.84, 11.2) and Everett Smith was 72nd in the freshman boys’ race (1:14.05.13, 11.2).
Holden Schmitz finished seventh in the JV-3 boys’ race (1:01:09.17, 13.3) for the RHS side while Michael Tredupp was 45th in the freshman boys’ race (58:17.16, 11.2). Emma Mankus suffered a retirement in the JV-2 girls’ race.
Overall for the season the RNC squad placed 19th in Division 2 while RHS took 30th. Macy Lester was seventh in the varsity girls’ ranks. Holden Schmitz was 10th and Price took 14th in the JV-3 boys’ category. Gregersen finished 32nd and Nathan Cordy was 62nd in the JV-2 boys’ division. Mankus was 24th and Kylie Lester finished 39th in the JV-2 girls’ category. Tredupp placed 33rd and Smith was 49th in the freshman boys’ ranks. Results were calculated by taking each rider’s four best performances of the season.
In middle school action on Sunday, Henry Schmitz was 10th in the eighth-grade boys’ race (24:40.99). The RNC team had four riders in the sixth-grade boys’ race with Jacob MacFarland taking 15th (31:08.74), Hans Sommer placing 17th (31:10.57), Jace Houg finishing 34th (33:07.74) and Emmett Tuckey placing 36th (33:15.75). All middle school riders did one lap of the shorter 5.56-mile course.
