Rethinking security
To the Editor:
Despite our massive “intelligence” community, we didn’t have a clue that the 9/11 attack was coming. Despite our massive “intelligence” community and that of our friends in Israel, they didn’t have a clue that Hamas was about to attack them. Perhaps it’s time to rethink our security effort.
Rather than basing our security on suspicion and threats of violence and the use of violence, would we be more secure if we based our relations on trust (as in living up to our treaty obligations) and civility. As difficult as it might be, it’s easier to say “I’m sorry,” “I understand now” or “I’m glad you can see my point of view” than to heal a bruise from a punch, a stab wound, a bullet hole, or bomb.
