Raymond Alsteen, age 95, a 58-year resident of Eagle River, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side. Raymond was born on Nov. 19, 1927, in Rhinelander, to Alex and Sylvia Alsteen. He met and married his wife, Eunice, and together they moved to Eagle River and raised their family. Raymond was a barber for many years and the owner of Ray’s Country Sound Barber Shop where you could get a haircut and a fiddle song.
Raymond’s greatest pleasures in life were: Jesus, his family, music, playing his fiddle and other instruments, hunting and fishing. Raymond served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle River and was a member of the Three Lakes American Legion Post #431.
Raymond was a loving, generous, caring husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice (Elaine) Cook Alsteen in 2002, his parents, three grandchildren, and 12 siblings.
He is survived by his children: Iris Shewmake of Wausau, Dale (Karin) Alsteen of Sheboygan, Brice (Denise) Alsteen of Manitowoc, Debra (Dave) Numrich of Eagle River, Randy (Pam) Alsteen of Eagle River, Keith (Debbie) Alsteen of Antigo, and Brian (Laura) Alsteen of Sheboygan; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle River. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
