Learn to play Kubb in the Hodag Dome

The School District of Rhinelander Community Education Program is offering a class that highlights an activity that is growing in popularity. Learn all about Kubb on Monday, Oct. 30, in the Hodag Dome.

Kubb (pronounced koob) is a Scandinavian game where the object is to knock over wooden blocks, or kubbs, by throwing wooden batons at them. The ultimate goal is to knock over the kubbs on the opposite side, then knock over the king (kung) before the opponent does. Games can last from five minutes to over an hour. Kubb can be played on a variety of surfaces — grass, sand, snow and ice, or indoors on artificial turf. Mostly played as a backyard game, Kubb is an international sport — the U.S. Kubb Championship is played in Eau Claire.

The class will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30 and is geared toward those age 14 and up. Kathy Ugo and Tom LaDue will serve as the instructors. Registration is $5.

Pre-registration is required for all classes. Please register by Thursday, Oct. 26. Space is limited. To register, please visit the ‘Community’ section of the School District of Rhinelander website: https://www.rhinelander.k12.wi.us/activities/community-education-classes.cfm
