Barbara Ann Kranda, age 86, of Rhinelander died on Oct. 15, 2023 at Aspirus St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander. Barbara was born on April 29, 1937, in New Iberia, Louisiana, to Lloyd and Lynn (Miguze) Abraham.
Barb spent her early years in Louisiana and then at about six years old her family moved to Minnesota. She attended schools in the St. Paul area and graduated high school in 1955. After high school she attended nursing school at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Barb later met her husband Robert and they were married on October 11, 1958. Shortly after they were married they moved to Blooming Prairie, Minn. where she used her nursing schooling and Robert went into farming. In the early ‘90s they would retire and build their home on a lake near Tomahawk. After living there for a few years they would start to travel.
Barb and Robert loved to travel all over the country, staying at national parks that would let them work at the parks for a free campsite. They spent several years in Texas before eventually moving to Rhinelander in 2018. They really enjoyed those years in Texas.
Barb enjoyed gardening, riding horses, travel, and she loved to read. She would exchange books with her daughter and granddaughter. Barb loved her children and grandchildren the most.
Barb is survived by her daughter Karen Kranda of Rhinelander, son Michael (Kelly) Kranda of Kensett, Iowa; grandchildren Robert (Cindy), Katrina (Casey), Chelsea (Brandon), Jonathan (Erin), Shannon (Dane); great-grandchildren McKenzie, Leighton, Oaklyn, Levi, Noah, Adley, Colter, Madison and Grayson, other family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, parents, and son Patrick.
A Memorial Mass will be held for Barbara on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, with Father Christopher Kemp officiating, at the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Rhinelander at 11 a.m. with a visitation at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
