Wheelchair Drive at Calvary
Wheelchairs that are no longer in use can be donated October 16-21 at Calvary Baptist Church (320 Lincoln Street) in Rhinelander. In partnership with Wheels for the World, a division of Joni and Friends Ministries, used wheelchairs are collected locally and restored to like-new condition, church officials said in a press release. These wheelchairs are then given to people with disabilities living in developing nations.
“A person with limited mobility is often excluded from life in their community because they have no way of moving around,” the release states. “But the gift of a wheelchair literally lifts someone from out of the dirt to a seat of dignity and opportunity. Wheels for the World provides life-changing mobility to people impacted by disability around the world.”
The following items will be accepted: manual wheelchairs (all types and sizes); aluminum walkers, crutches and canes; and wheelchair parts (nothing wooden or electric please).
Drop-off hours will be Monday, Oct. 16, 9 a.m.-noon; Oct. 17, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; Oct. 18, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; Oct. 19, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.; Oct 20, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; and Oct. 21, 9 a.m.-noon.
Wheelchairs can also be dropped off by appointment by calling 715-362-4792.
