RHS boys’ soccer receives 5-seed, to open playoffs at Waupaca

The Rhinelander High School boys’ soccer team received the fifth seed in their nine-team half sectional bracket on Sunday and will begin the WIAA tournament at Waupaca in a regional semifinal matchup next Thursday.

The Hodags (7-4-3) will face a fourth-seeded Comet team (10-4-0) that defeated regional opponents Antigo and Medford during the regular season, and lost to Mosinee, which drew the No. 1 seed in the bracket. The winner of the Rhinelander/Waupaca game would face the winner of Mosinee and either Antigo or Merrill in the regional finals Oct. 21.

Lakeland earned the No. 2 seed in the bracket ahead of Shawano. Medford was the No. 6 see and New London earned the No. 7 seed. 

Rhinelander concluded its regular season Thursday night against Northland Pines in a game that finished after press time for today’s edition.
