Paul Murvin Johnson, born on April 1, 1937, in Rhinelander, to Murvin and Frances Johnson, peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones on October 6, 2023.
With his Civil Engineering degree, he contributed significantly to the Department of Transportation in Rhinelander and Superior. He was also a skilled basketball player during his youth, benefiting from his definite height advantage.
Although he was modest about it, Paul was a bit of an artist, known for his heartfelt drawings that adorned cards and messages over the years. He loved being in nature and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He cherished outdoor activities and shared these moments with his children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends, whether it was skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, hiking, or fishing.
In addition to his love for the outdoors, Paul was a dedicated volunteer in many capacities over the years. Of late he was serving as a beloved reading buddy at Iron River Elementary School, serving at the church, and also supporting the maintenance of local trails with the North Country Trails organization.
Paul Johnson’s legacy will live on through the memories he created with family and friends, his passion for nature, his selfless volunteer work, and his gentle and kind nature.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, especially his wife of nearly 60 years, Linda, his children Lisa, Derek, and Renee, his sister Marlene, his 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren (with 1 more on the way!), and 7 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Delta United Church of Christ at 61190 Pike River Road, Delta, WI 54856, on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by the service at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would also appreciate donations to:
1. Delta United Church of Christ in Delta, Wisconsin, in memory of Paul.
2. North Country Trail Association at www.northcountrytrail.org in memory of Paul.
3. Consider paying it forward by donating your time or money to any nature organization in your local area that could use the support.
Roberts Funeral Home of Ashland is assisting the family with arrangements.
