Laurel Eileen Davis

Laurel Eileen Davis, age 71, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at her home. She was born in Freeport, Illinois, on April 7, 1952, the daughter of Robert and Beatrice Hanna.

Laurel grew up primarily in Appleton. She received her bachelor's degree in teaching from UW Oshkosh. On May 25, 1974 she married Richard Davis. 

Laurel was a special education teacher for most of her career and later worked as a substitute teacher. She loved her husband and enjoyed retirement living in their lake cabin in the north woods. 

After Richard's death, she moved to Sun Prairie to be closer to friends and family. 

Laurel loved music — playing guitar, piano, dulcimer, banjo, and singing throughout her life. She enjoyed social events with friends, gathering with family, celebrating and hosting holidays, and spoiling the beloved dogs she had through the years. She was kind and thoughtful and loved dearly by her family and many neighbors and friends. She adored and was greatly loved by her grandchildren. Laurel is now reunited with her husband in heaven. 

She is survived by her son, Andrew (Amy); daughter, Katie (Kathryn); three grandchildren, Rebekah, Ramona, and Henry; and sister, Dianne Hansen. Laurel was preceded in death by her parents and husband. 

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of services. Burial will be held in Wilderness Rest Cemetery in Lake Tomahawk at 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude or Dane County Humane Society.
