Alzheimer’s Association to host upcoming workshops
Alzheimer’s disease affects more than six million people in the United States, including more than 120,000 people in Wisconsin alone. The Alzheimer’s Association will be hosting two programs in the area during October to help educate and raise awareness, organizers said in a press release.
The first program, “Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia,” will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the ADRC of Oneida County (100 Keenan Street) in Rhinelander from 1 to 2:30 p.m. This program provides a general overview for people who are facing a diagnosis as well as those who wish to be more informed about the disease.
“Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia”:
• Explores the relationship between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
• Examines what happens in a brain affected by Alzheimer’s.
• Details the risk factors the risk for and three general stages of the disease.
• Identifies FDA-approved treatments available to treat some symptoms.
• Looks ahead to what’s on the horizon for Alzheimer’s research.
• Offers helpful Alzheimer’s Association and local community resources.
The second program, “Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body,” is offered in partnership with the ADRC of Vilas and will be held on Monday, Oct. 23, at the Olson Memorial Library (203 N. Main Street) in Eagle River from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
At any age, there are lifestyle habits we can adopt to help maintain or even potentially improve our health. These habits may also help to keep our brains healthy as we age and possibly delay the onset of cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer’s disease, the release states.
To help people age well, the Alzheimer’s Association® is offering the “Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body” program. This workshop covers areas of lifestyle habits that are associated with healthy aging including:
• Cognitive activity.
• Physical health and exercise.
• Diet and nutrition.
• Social engagement.
