Nearly 100 people participated in a 5K Color Run Sunday, Oct. 1 at Hodag Park in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A candlelight vigil and cleansing burn ceremony were scheduled for Friday evening, Oct. 6, as part of the annual domestic violence awareness initiative. (Submitted photo)In honor of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Tri-County Council on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault (TCC) sponsored and facilitated its first ever 5K event.
According to TCC Executive Director Angie Fanning, the event drew a mix of men, women and children.
“We want to thank everyone who came out and participated in the event,” Fanning said in a press release thanking the participants. “Additionally, we could not have pulled this off without our business and individual sponsors. Because of their generosity, we were able to make the event free to everyone.”
In addition, a foam party, sponsored by Kenny’s Elite Auto Detail and Tinting in Eagle River, greeted participants as they crossed the finish line.
“The foam bubbles added so much fun to the event, especially for the kids,” said Fanning. “Also, the kids thoroughly enjoyed getting their faces painted courtesy of Tom’s Drawing Board in Rhinelander.”
The organization plans to hold another 5K next year but at a different location, the release states.
TCC is a non-profit organization, located in Vilas, Oneida and Forest counties, that has been providing free services to victims, survivors and families affected by domestic violence since 1978. For more information, visit tricountycouncilondvsa.org or its Facebook page.
