RHS Sports recap: Thursday, Oct. 5
Girls’ swimming: Rhinelander 131, Colby/Abbotsford 37
The Rhinelander High School girls’ swim team won all 11 events again on Thursday as it cruised to a 131-37 victory in Great Northern Conference play at Colby/Abbotsford.
Abi Winnicki, Karis Francis and Vivian Lamers were all four-event winners for the Hodags. The three saw with Ellyse Younker to win both the 200-yard medley and 400 freestyle relays. Winnicki took the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke; Francis won the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke and Lamers took the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle.
Celia Francis added an individual win in the 50 freestyle, Rylee Mickevicius won the 500 freestyle and the Hodags took the 200 freestyle relay with the team of Celia Francis, Millie Gruett, Lily Thorsen and Ella Heck.
Rhinelander (6-0 Great Northern) will close out conference dual meet play this coming Thursday at home against Antigo.
Boys’ soccer: Mosinee 1, Rhinelander 0
Rhinelander’s hopes of a GNC boys’ soccer title officially came to an end Thursday night with a 1-0 loss at Mosinee.
Jaeger Dhein scored the lone goal in the 29th minute and the Hodags, despite improved second-half pressure, were never able to find the equalizer.
Mosinee outshot Rhinelander 27-15 in the match. Barak Rappley made nine saves in defeat.
Rhinelander (6-4-3, 5-3-0-1 Great Northern) travels to Merrill for a non-conference game on Friday.
