RHS Sports Recap: Monday, Oct. 2

Girls’ tennis: Rhinelander 4th/8, WIAA Subsectionals

The RHS girls’ tennis team went 5-6 in matches on Monday and took fourth as it hosted an eight-team WIAA Division 1 subsectional. 

No. 1 singles player Tori Riopel (22-11) advanced to the sectional round of the tournament with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Medford’s Marcy Raznik. The Hodags got wins in the first round by Dawsyn Bakrus (No. 2 singles), Shayla Coppenger (No. 3 singles), Brooke Sisel/Evelyn Sawyer (No. 2 doubles) and Teagan Turcotte/Willow VanDenHeuvel (No. 3 doubles), but none were able to secure the second win they needed to advance. 

Riopel will face Eau Claire North’s Miah Nelson in sectional quarterfinals on Wednesday in Eau Claire. The winner of that match will clinch an automatic berth into the WIAA state tournament.
